Becoming designers was never a conscious decision that we took, especially when we held bachelor’s degrees in unrelated fields (Ala’a in Finance, Danah in Chemical Engineering). Our design path started when we both went to Central Saint Martins to complete a Graphic Design Portfolio course. That year alone introduced us to the fascinating and endless realm of design and encouraged us to partner and start up “The Yard”.
The Yard started as an online concept store in 2010, based on upcycled products. Throughout our journey, we found multiple ways to integrate design within our business. Eventually, The Yard expanded to include a wider product mix, and explored opportunities to collaborate with a local restaurant and to curate a gift shop and community space. This opportunity allowed us to translate our work into something tangible and begin to experiment on a multi-dimensional level!
Today, The Yard is involved with product selection & design, menu engineering & food presentation, event planning & workshop development. We believe strongly in partnering with individuals and businesses from different schools of thought and from varous fields to offer something new and exciting to the market, whether it is through our products, food, events or workshops.
